Ford CUV Maintenance

Ford crossover utility vehicles or CUVs are popular for their versatility, great looks, and performance, among other things, and properly maintaining your Ford CUV is key to keeping it in great running condition and for its longevity. Just like a nutritious diet and exercise is an important investment for your health, keeping your vehicle well maintained is money and time well spent, and there are no shortcuts or tricks for it. At Sound Ford Service, we know your Ford better than any quick service mechanic, and we want to share our thoughts on Ford CUV Maintenance with you.

We can’t stress it enough: your oil and oil filter need to be changed on a consistent basis. If you do nothing else for vehicle maintenance, then this would be the one service that we’d recommend over anything else. Particulates and other gunk build up over time and can damage your engine, and moving parts need to be lubricated well for smooth operation of your vehicle.

Ford CUV Maintenance Intervals

The maintenance schedule for your vehicle will have oil changes written into it, but if you like taking care of your car, this is a fairly simple procedure. Your owner’s manual may give you a suggested interval for oil changes, and it’s good to factor in your driving habits. The Ford Motor Company recommends for 2008 and newer model-year vehicles to have oil changes every 7,500 miles or every 6 months (whichever is first), and for ’07 and older, it’s 5,000 miles or every 6 months.

Some driving habits make it suitable to have oil and filter changes more frequently, and some of these may include driving off-road on a regular basis, extensive idling, towing heavy loads, using E85 fuel over 50% of the time, and driving in dusty conditions. For these factors, Ford recommends an oil change interval every 5,000 miles or six months on 2008 and newer models, and if your vehicle is ’07 or older, the interval is 3,000 miles or every three months.

Making sure that your oil level is sufficient is important, too, and if your vehicle is using more oil than normal, this may be a sign of a leak. If you suspect that you have an oil leak, don’t hesitate to bring your vehicle in. Some 2011 Ford CUVs and more recent models may have an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM). This system can alert you to oil change intervals in addition to when your fuel pressure is low or when fuel filters need changing.

Thorough Ford CUV Maintenance in Renton

While most people focus on what’s under the hood for vehicle maintenance, we at Sound Ford Service would add that taking care of the exterior is important as well. Rain, sun, road grime, and other elements can damage your paint or even rust the body, and washing and waxing help to protect your CUV. What’s nice about coming to Sound Ford Service is that we offer a free hand wash of your vehicle with your service; just request it and we’re happy to oblige.

Bringing your CUV in for scheduled maintenance goes a long way towards keeping your vehicle in good shape, and it will help to keep your vehicle on the road longer. The services that we perform at Sound Ford are important for your car, and scheduled maintenance is also beneficial in that you’ll have an expert eye inspecting your vehicle’s systems. Today’s cars are sophisticated, and in addition to the mechanicals, your car’s computer and electrical systems may need maintenance. So whether we’re inspecting your timing belt, replenishing fluids, changing hoses and filters, or whatever your vehicle is scheduled for, you can be confident that we’re also looking at the other systems to help prevent future problems.

Ford CUV Maintenance Tips

Here are some other things that you can do to help maintain the value of your CUV and keep it in good shape: Keeping your gas tank half full will prevent the fuel pump from working too hard and may help with your fuel efficiency. When you have maintenance or repair work done, keep the receipts. These are proof of the work that has been done on your vehicle, and are good to have if you want to sell it. If you don’t have a garage and your vehicle has to be parked in the sun for extended periods, invest in a vehicle cover. UV rays can fade or damage your paint, and may damage the interior as well.
